When I was Secretary of the T&C Board a few years back, we began the often-painful process of examining whether the then-current Technical Communities were serving the Computer Society constituencies’ needs or whether they’d outlived their usefulness. As a result of our review several were dissolved, and a new more agile program – Special Technical Communities—was established to enable our members to quickly establish online technical communities of interest.
T&C’s job is enable and support interactions relating to technical innovation and the exchange of technical information, for the benefit of all aspects of computing technologies , their users and developers, worldwide. They accomplish this primarily by presenting over 200 conferences each year, and publishing the proceedings to enable worldwide sharing and exchange of information. In addition, T&C supports the “on demand” instantiation of online Special Technical Communities by any group of members interested in pursuing a given technical discussion.
